There are a few basic definitions you will want to know before you master MadMarg (there won't be a test, don't worry):

Family - Your MadMarg profile that includes your friends and family as members. You can have as many families as you would like and switch back and forth among them.

Member - user in a MadMarg. There are three types of users:

Adult - as an Adult user, we require your name, gender, e-mail address, and zip code
Child - as a Child user, we only require for gender and zip code. E-mail address is never required for a child.
Pet - here we just ask for the pet's name. No e-mail address requested.

Your MadMarg profile is your default family and is a great place to add stories and photos about your whole family.

Nudges - A Nudge is a simple reminder to tell a story about someone (this is why you are here). A Nudge can only be made for someone who has a profile in your MadMarg.

See. That was easy. Now, go have some fun telling your stories.

Create the Family Name - this is like a username for your Family.
Enter the name you want displayed in your MadMarg. For instance, you may enter Smith, or The Smith's.
Feel free to add a Family portrait or photo. This isn't required, so you can add one late.
Create a username and password. This is your personal username and password.
Enter your first and last name.
Enter the name you want displayed in your MadMarg. You be known as Uncle Charlie, or a special nickname.
Enter your e-mail, street address, etc.
Submit.

Once you Submit, you will be sent a confirmation e-mail with your username and password. You are automatically added to your MadMarg as the Administrator for the Family. This allows you to add more members, manage members, etc.

Add Family and Friends. Once you register and have logged in, you can add friends and family members to your MadMarg family profile. You can add Adult profiles, Child profiles, and even your Pets. As a Family Administrator, you want to stay in complete control of who are members in your family (too bad you can't do that in real life.) As a security measure, only MadMarg Family Administrators can add Family and Friends.

To add family and friends:

Select Add Friends and Family from the upper right corner of the page. (If this is not present, you must not be a Family Administrator.)
Select the new member type

If Adult, enter their e-mail address and access level. An e-mail will be sent to them inviting them to your family. The Adult member will not appear until they accept the membership into your MadMarg family.
If a Child, enter the Child's information. The e-mail address is not required. However, if you want them to receive Nudges, you must enter an e-mail address. They will immediately be added to your MadMarg family.
If a Pet, enter your pet's information. (No need for an e-mail address.) Your pet will immediately be added to your MadMarg family.

Nudges - A Nudge is a reminder for you to write a story about someone in your MadMarg.

To Nudge Yourself, simply:

Select Nudges from the top menu
Select Nudge Yourself
Pick the person you want to write about
Select your relationship to this person
Select the day of the week and time you would like to be Nudged
Enter the topic of the nudge
- Sample topics:
Tell me a story about what I did last weekend.

Tell me something about my childhood.

Tell me a story about your childhood.

Tell me the story of your first day in college.
Submit

Once you have created a Nudge. You can go back to Edit or Delete your Nudge.

Select Nudges from the top menu
Hit Edit or Delete

Stories - A story is an entry in a member's profile that can be read by anyone in your Family. Stories are time stamped with when they occurred, and entered into categories. These categories help divide a person's stories into common groups and can be used later when you publish these stories into a book.

There are two main ways to tell a story about someone . from a Nudge, or from the person's profile:

Tell a story from a Nudge:

When you receive a Nudge, select the secure link from the Nudge e-mail
Select the category for the story
Tell your story . feel free to elaborate and add color, fonts, and smilies
Select the time when the story took place
Select who else was in this story . This feature will enter the story into the other members. profile
Future releases of Stories will allow you to add pictures to the story.
Submit

Tell a story from a profile:

Select the person's profile
Hit Add Stories
Select the category for the story
Tell your story . feel free to elaborate and add color, fonts, and smilies
Select the time when the story took place
Select who else was in this story . This feature will enter the story into the other members' profile
Future releases of Stories will allow you to add pictures to the story
Submit

Albums - A photo album can be created for each member of your family, or in the family profile. The albums can be saved into categories which will be useful later when you publish stories about your family or its members.

There are two ways to add photos to an Album, from the Albums feature, or from a Family or Member's profile:

Add photos to an album:

Select Album from the top menu
Select the profile where you want to add the photo
Hit Upload Photos
Select the category for the photo
Browse to select the photo
Feel free to enter a caption
Hit Add Photos

Add photos from a profile:

From the Home page, select the member or family profile
Select Album
Hit Upload Photos
Select the category for the photo
Browse to select the photo
Feel free to enter a caption
Hit Add Photos

Address Book - The Address Book helps you keep track of your family and friends. Information in the Address Book can be managed through the Address Book or in the member's settings if you are the MadMarg Administrator for the family. The primary e-mail address for adult profiles is the e-mail address used for Nudges and cannot be edited in the Address Book.

To edit an address in the Address Book, simply select the edit icon for the member.

Settings - Settings is the main area for your MadMarg maintenance. This is where you can change information about yourself (picture, e-mail, etc.). If you are an Administrator in your MadMarg, you can also edit information about your family and who has access to your family.

- Note - Changes to your e-mail and time zone settings will affect how and when your Nudges arrive

Members - the members list allows you to edit who has access to your family and the type of access they own.

Access Levels
- Administrator - An Administrator in your MadMarg allows that user all access to add stories, photos, Nudges, edit address book entries, edit access levels and add/remove users.
- Editor - An Editor in your MadMarg allows that user all access to add stories, photos, Nudges, and edit address book entries. An Editor cannot add new users to your MadMarg.
- Reader - A Reader allows read-only access to your MadMarg.

Create a New Family - In MadMarg, you can be a member of multiple families at one time. If you are a member of a family and would like to create another:

Select Settings from the top menu
Select New Family
Create the Family Name - this is like a username for your Family
Enter the name you want displayed in your MadMarg. For instance, you may enter Smith, or The Smith's
Feel free to add a Family portrait or photo. This isn.t required, so you can add one later
Submit

Once your new family is created, Change Family will appear on the right on the top menu.

Change Family - As the member of multiple families, Change family will appear on the right of the top menu. To change families:

Select Change Family
Select the family to change to from the pull down menu
Switch Family
